Customer photo review of Lockable Fishing Pliers with Ergonomic Handle & Teflon Coating

I've been fishing for 57 years now and 25 years of that span has been alongside my father in law and amazing bass-slaying wife. They've been fishing together for the last 60 years together, and they've got more fish stories than Carter's got pills. We've fished all over the country together, but spend the most time on the water at the Toledo Bend Reservoir on the eastern border of TX/western border of LA in Pop's Ranger or the Bass Tracker. Anyone who fishes regularly knows the value of a good set of needlenose pliers. They also know how easy it is to lose them, or set them down while focused on tying the hook or lure, then spend 10 minutes of prime "fishin-time" hunting through the boat to find them. The moment this tool arrived, those rusty old pliers - although they did serve faithfully - were retired to the nearest trash container and we used the lanyard to attach the pliers to the 'playpen" seat pole. That bass my lovely wife is holding was the first use of those pliers to remove a hook seriously buried in the tough part of the mouth area. By the time we were finished, she demanded (and because she consistently catches the "first and the largest" wherever we go - she's got the power TO "demand" what she wants at her end of the boat) a pair and because she also runs the trolling motor most days, she's at the opposite end so needs her own pair. If you've experienced the "fishing bug" that infects some of us, her request (demand) for these pliers after 60 years on the water with a bass rod should tell you all you need to know about these pliers. If there's a fisherperson anywhere in your orbit and you're looking for an awesome gift for them, you've definitely found it. These pliers are "da-bom."

This will be an excellent addition to my fishing tools. I often head out with a pair of pliers to remove hooks, a tool to cut braided line, and nothing for handling split rings. Any items are typically stuffed in my pockets. This tool will take care of all my concerns. When I opened the box, everything inside had a professional look to it. This is a quality tool and even the packaging reflected that. The pliers have a great feel to them. They feel solid and everything fits together as designed. The retractable clips, for keeping the product readily available are strong and a good way to prevent losing this. The cutters work fine on braided line, a nice clean cut. The split ring tool worked well on the various size of rings I tried. This will simplify previous issues I had trying to keep a split ring open to remove a hook. The hook realigning/debugging slots are a nice addition for quick fixes out on the water. Other features such as knot cinching holes and specific areas on the pliers to compress sinkers onto lines are nice touches. Overall, the aluminum handles keep this product light and provide for a easy grip. The top part of this plier is supposed to be stainless steel, but it is also magnetic. However I will take the manufacturer's word as they must be using a magnetic type of stainless steel. I think this is a top quality product and I will be taking this with me on all my fishing trips. I definitely feel it is worth the price and I hope it lasts for many years.

These pliers are a definite upgrade over the cheap multitool pliers I have been using. They have a nice long needle nose with a split ring opener on the end. These will help me get deep if/when a fish swallows my hook. These feel good in my hand. I really appreciate how easy it is to lock/unlock with a single hand. The teeth line up pretty well, and the line cutter cuts nicely (I've had pliers where the teeth didn't line up well so they didn't close fully, and, thus, the cutting blades wouldn't really cut). These are easy to close, and they default to an open position unless you close the lock. The two included attachment methods are a nice bonus. There is one thing I would mention for left-handed fishermen/women ... There is a rubber grip along the outside edge of the black handle (can't really see it in the pic, but it's there). On the green handle there is a small rubber thumb rest. If you are left-handed, you don't have full advantage of the grips. You might ask ... what if I just flip them over? If you do that the cutter and the locking button are on the wrong side and are no longer as easy to use. Overall, as righty, I am really happy with these. If I was a lefty, I might be slightly less satisfied.

Customer photo review of Lockable Fishing Pliers with Ergonomic Handle & Teflon Coating

I got these for my dad who is an avid fisherman who loves to go trout and sturgeon fishing on the Snake River in southern Idaho every year. The pliers are the main attraction of this set and are good quality with a smooth action to them. The thumb lock on the handles is easy to operate and keeps them secure when not i use. The handle grips are comfortable and ergonomic and the jaw design, teeth slots, and other openings check all the boxes on what you would need fishing pliers to be able to handle. Where the quality varies somewhat is with the two lanyards/retainers that are included. The retractable badge-style hook is the better of the two in terms of quality both in materials (all metal) and the carabiner included. The plastic spiral lanyard has a steel cable core but the carabiner clip is not up to the same standard and the split-ring on the end is definitely on the flimsy side. One or both could be easily replaced if you're so inclined and, as mentioned before, don't take anything away from the quality of the pliers themselves.

Customer photo review of Lockable Fishing Pliers with Ergonomic Handle & Teflon Coating

Alright, so I ordered a set of fishing pliers (different brand) a few months ago and I was highly disappointed in the fit, finish, and function. Having said that, I ordered these TRUSCEND fishing pliers with a bit of trepidation. I needn't have worried. These pliers FAR exceeded my every expectation! I'll try to keep this shorter than “War and Peace”. First off, even though the appearance of my fishing gear is way less important to me than the function, I must say that these pliers look awesome. I like to fish for dorado so I find it fortuitous that I received the green/yellow handle model. On the aforementioned bad pliers one of my complaints was that the jaws did not close completely and the teeth did not nest within each other. As you can see in the photo, these TRUSCEND pliers closed and nested perfectly. Many pliers and braid scissors that I have owned in the past required that I cut braided line under tension. These pliers glided through un-tensioned 30# braid with ease (see photo). Out-freaking-standing! To test the split ring opener, I just photographed it opening the key chain ring. Again, perfect function. I really like the combination of anti-corrosion coating, light weight, strong alloy, ergonomic design, and rubberized handle spines. The entire engineering and finish of this tool is incredibly “tight” (in the best sense of the word). No loose fitting parts, tooling marks, weak springs, dull cutting blades, etc. There are two different styles of retainers included with the tool which is a welcome bonus. My buddy and I lost a set of pliers overboard in Mexico last year for lack of a retainer. That's not going to happen with these. These are, by far, the best pair of pliers I have ever owned in my life and they are worth every penny of $25.00. If you are looking for a gift idea for the fisherman or fisherwoman in your life, these are a great solution at a reasonable price. Easiest five stars ever! ****Update edit**** These things are so good I went and ordered a second pair (pictured in silver finish) as a gift idea for my fishing buddy. The second pair mirrors the first in the excellent craftmanship up to and including those incredible cutters that glide right through un-tensioned braid. I just can't get over that. Those folks over at TRUSCEND put out some excellent products at very reasonable prices and this is one of their best! Buy these...now!

Customer photo review of Lockable Fishing Pliers with Ergonomic Handle & Teflon Coating

I am very impressed with this tool. Admittedly, I primarily wanted this pliers for the ability to easily open split rings, like you find on key chains. I doubt I'll ever use this tool for fishing, but I'll use it plenty. Regardless, it's a very nice piece of equipment. The Good: The build quality is amazing. I found myself just idly playing with it while watching television, that's how pleasant this thing is to hold in your hand. It's light weight, yet feels solid. It has some rubber touches on the handle that are in just the right place (for your right hand). The locking mechanism seems robust. And the little tooth on the end works perfectly to open the key rings. The Bad: The accessories are basically worthless. The retractable one broke immediately, as you can see from the photo. The rubber coiled clip is not much better, as the pliers are heavy enough that the coil stretches down to my knee, making it quite the pain to reach for. I'd have rather had a sheath or belt holster of some kind. The Meh: It's VERY comfortable for right hand use. But the placement of the lock and the slight curves of the handles make it "backwards" when held in your left hand. It's not a huge issue, but you definitely know that you're holding it backwards. Overall, I'm very impressed with the tool. (Side Note: My original order of this tool never arrived. I had to file a reorder request for this item. Not sure what happened. The second one showed up just fine. No stars removed for that, just a full disclosure type of thing.)
